I'm sorry that we didn't tell people this was going to happen. It's a
good opportunity for us to learn and I believe that we'll deal better
with this sort of thing in future.
I know that all of the Launchpad developers are really motivated by
pleasing the people who use the service. The conversations I've had with
some of the Launchpad guys, here at the Bazaar sprint in Amsterdam, show
that they're passionate about making a system that the open source
community will really love to use.
I agree - we communicated poorly. The good news, though, is that the
Launchpad guys do care and they're embarrassed that we didn't tell
people the karma reduction was going to happen. So, we're keen to make
sure it doesn't happen again. That's not to say we won't make more
mistakes but it does mean that it matters to us that we do better.
On a related note, we'll have a Launchpad blog soon, which will be a
good place for us to announce future changes.
Thanks for taking the time to let us know how much this irritated you.
It's really important that Launchpad users do let us know when we make a
mistake.
