Oops message - from bad imports?

I uploaded  several .po files for XML Copy Editor, for German, Swedish,
French, Slovak, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.

I received email messages for each upload, with three uploads indicating
that the import was fine, and three that the upload had problems. The
problems were with the Swedish, Slovak and Simplified Chinese .po files.

I had gotten these .po files fromGerald Schmidt, the developer, who received
them from the translators. For all but the Simplified Chinese, I opened the
.po file in poEdit and used the Catalog | Update from POT file ... command
to make these files consistent with the XCE messages.pot file I had uploaded
previously. That is, the .pot file had 404 messages as of version
1.0.9.5and five of these files had fewer messages. I also opened the
.po files in a
text editor and hand-edited some incorrect information at the beginning of
the file, emails and copyright and such.

The Simplified Chinese already had 404 messages and I uploaded it unchanged.
However, it seems that at least one source message in that file doesn't
match the source message I have in my Khmer file, so I'll track down what's
going on with that.

The Swedish file had this line that seemed to be causing a problem:
#, c-format
That was easy enough to remove.

I have no idea what might be the problem with the Slovak file. The email
message said I could use msgfmt to find out what the problem is, but that
appears to be a Linux program, and I don't see any Windows programs that
will help with this.

So my first question to this list is this: How do I learn what the problem
is with the Simplified Chinese and with the Slovak translations?

When I went to upload the corrected Swedish .po file (with the line
removed), I got an Oops! page indicating something "had gone wrong in
Launchpad." I tried several times yesterday evening and this morning to get
any translation information for XCE and got Oops! pages each time. The page
said to reference error ID OOPS-538C1040 (at least the most recent one did).

Does the problem stem from uploading bad .po files?

Even though I had hand-edited the .po files and had used poEdit to update
them against the template, I chose the second option on upload, not the
"user-edited" but the official translation choice, since I had not in fact
edited any messages/translations. Was that the correct choice?

Thanks for answering my questions and helping me get the XCE translations
back into operation.

Oh, one more question: When Gerald adds some new messages to version 1.0.9.6,
what's the best way to promote all the existing translations into the new
version?
