You've had some good feedback on how to do this without needing Xmir.
Which I would try first.
But in case you do go down the Xmir route, you could use Ubuntu Wily
instead of Trusty to avoid building Xmir from source. Wily ships with the
newer standalone Xmir, which deb2snap can use.
