a question about sound in 9.04

Hi, I tried to play a movie file today in 9.04 and found that Orca was still able to be used. This is great. I think Luke said he disabled pulse, so what is being used now. I show alsa, so was a way found to get both Orca and audio to work through alsa. I always had to switch to speech-dispatcher or pulse in the past.
   I will say 9.04 is shaping up to be a very nice distro.
