Ubuntu and virus protection

Thanks to all who gave advice. It is reassuring to learn that, as I
suspected, Linux was generally virus free. Nevertheless, like most, I
use Internet banking that I would like to keep secure as much as I can
in my terminal. I have made text files of all replies and will be
looking at all the suggestions for further action. Great stuff. 
By the way I use two hard drives, one for XP (which has a few programs
that I must use) and one for Ubuntu. I switch from one to the other
using a latched switching device designed by an electronics friend. The
device fits into a PC case slot.
If I have further questions on specific points raised by members I will
email directly, if that's OK.
