This bug has been fixed in cutecom 0.22.0-2 wich is in 11.04 but Lucid LTS doesn't have this patch.
Ronny Cardona suggested me to request for a backport (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cutecom/+bug/715690).
