The default media players on (almost) any desktop have several formats
in common that they can play (including streaming formats, but to me
that doesn't really look like an absolute requirement?).  The problem
might be to find one that has a good quality/size ratio.

I was rather thinking about codecs for gstreamer, direct media & the
MacOS equivalent.

Is that only for linux or also for Windows?

You could also try BIS, VDAB, etc. to use it for their on-line courses
(with you as a consultant of course)?
