Same here on my asus m51sn
Ubuntu Natty 64bits
2.6.38-8-generic x86_64
lsusb : Bus 004 Device 002: ID 0b05:1712 ASUSTek Computer, Inc. BT-183 Bluetooth 2.0+EDR adapter

"sudo service bluetooth restart" or "sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart" works
I have to make this each time i restart my pc
