THE 7.04 EXPERIENCE

You will be glad to hear the phantom 'disk' problem is solved. I had
been mucking around attempting to build a dual boot arrangement
Feisty/Xandros. Evidently, Xandros took it into its mind to install
itself on my removable drive, creating the so called 'disk' in the
process and reducing the size of my ntfs partition on that drive.

Of course, when I decided to forget Xandros and do a 'take over entire
disk' installation with Feisty, the latter took no notice of the funny
goings on on my removable drive. Instead, it dutifully noted this extra
'drive' and showed it on the Desktop. I tracked this down using gparted,
which noted that this phantom drive was also a boot drive, complete with
a Linux file system!

To cut a long story short, I connected my removable drive to my wife's
XP machine and, using Partition Magic, removed the offending partition
and resized my original ntfs partition. I then re-installed the
removable drive on the Ubuntu computer. Did a quick ntfsfix operation.
Amended /etc/fstab to get rid of the 'force' mount. The result: all is
well. Ubuntu remains supreme! :-) :-) :-)

I guess the lesson learned is MAURICE, WHY DON'T YOU STOP MUCKING AROUND!
