Gnome/GTK apps freezing up

A while ago, after fiddling with Gnome's accessibility options, but
not actually changing anything, Gnome/GTK apps freeze up after I log
in to Gnome. The widgets do not respond to mouse/keyboard commands and
do not repaint themselves.

GTK apps do not freeze up in KDE after a clean reboot.

As another user, I can log into Gnome fine (so it is my personal
settings that is causing the issue). I tried isolating the
configuration files causing the issue, but didn't get anywhere. None
of the logs I have checked are interesting (which logs should I
check?).

Any suggesstions?

PS. Running 6.10. Haven't upgraded quite yet.
