Postfix on Ubuntu

I don't know if this is an appropriate question for the list, but 
it's worth a shot. I'm trying to get Postfix installed on Ubuntu 6.06 
and not having much luck. It installs, configures just fine, but it 
falls over on startup. I get as far as: postfix/postfix-script: 
starting the Postfix mail system and that's it. Ps command doesn't 
show me any of the postfix processes running. I'd show a postconf 
output, but I don't *think* it has anything to do with my 
configuration... I'm not getting any errors or anything, either on 
the console or in the logs. Has anyone had luck installing this?
