By loaded, I mean your thesis statement really doesn't tell me much

In general free software people tend to be more up on the software
licensing stuff, given our licenses are essentially a hack of the
legal system to make it do what we want.

As for specific people, Michael Geist is the best person in Canada to
listen to/read.
