Issues with XORG.CONF and WPA wireless

Rsn update manager for my Hardy install, and not only did it kill my
GUI again - it clobbered my wireless connection.
I found out what the trouble is - seems that upgrading certain modules
wipes out the XORG.CONF file - I thought I might have to do total
reinstall again - but somehow got GNOME interface upo and running.
Then found I couldn't connect to wireless - that was my fault - I
switched from WEP to WPA Personal, and didn't know thatI now had to
configure WPAsupplicant (had no idea that I had to make additional
changes to get WPA Pers to work - there are no notes in router
configuration instructions about new requirements for using WPA as
opposed to WEP).
