Issues with XORG.CONF and WPA wireless

Interesting.

Is your Hardy installation an upgrade or a clean installation?

My upgrade gave me problems to no end. It took over a week to get a
stable running system from my upgrade from Gutsy. And, like you,
updates using update manager would clobber one thing or another.

I finally gave up and did a clean install. Backed up all my stuff and
wiped the system clean.

I haven't had a problem since.

I had problems with wireless in Gutsy that I solved using ndiswrapper.
Hardy supports my broadcom card using restricted drivers and there've
been two updates since. None have disabled the system. I don't use
ndiswrapper any more.

The other problem you mention is the GUI. My nvidia card was easy to
set up in Gutsy but I had to do that manually using the envy package.
That allowed for the screen resolution (1440 x 900) that I like. The
detected driver only gave me 800x600.

If you did an upgrade you might be experiencing problems symptomatic
to those described in infinite posts in the Ubuntu forums. Everybody
out there on Hardy is advocating a clean install.

Andrew.
