Hi:
The Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 Edition on DVD, gets you right into a Ram
Drive called perhaps "initramfs". There are a list of commands, but to a
new user whom has never seen this before, this presents a barrier for
getting to use 8.04. This was what I was talking about, when I said it
presents a Barrier. The Desktop does not load. At first in an earlier
version of Ubuntu it came up in terminal asking for GRUB and a list of
commands, and it took me a long time to figure out what commands I
needed to get the desktop working. When you talk to other people about
them using Linux, instead of Windows, and then when they get the DVD
Install disk, and it has this, all that talking, is a complete waste of
time, because it is too complicated for a new user to try to figure out
all this stuff, in-order to make use of Linux.
The Install CD for 8.04 works just fine - it installs the desktop in
live mode, and then has enough options to be able to put it on a drive
adjacent to other operating systems.
The jumper on my DVD Drive for Master Slave was loose, and I replaced it
so now both CD Drive and DVD Drive are working.
So perhaps later today I'll add the DVD SET for 8.04 as Repositories for
Ubuntu 8.04, and try to figure out how to get rid of the 577 update
files listed in the Icon for updates when I hover the cursor over it.
Alfred!
