I have been receiving many suggestions about solving my sound problems
with 8.04. Will try them all. I have a question. Under 7.10, I used to
get 2 sounds at boot-up - a "drum roll" when the log-in screen appears,
and then 2-3 seconds of deep "African" drums right after the log-in
screen. Under 8.04, I often hear the "drum roll" (sometimes silence)
when the log-in screen appears, but I have never heard the second sound
(deep African drums) right after the log-in screen. Under 8.04, am I
supposed to hear the second sound too? Someone just suggested that I
take out my Soundblaster sound card and just use the sound circuit on my
motherboard. Perhaps I may have to do that. But why should my
Soundblaster card work under 6.04, 6.10, 7.04, and 7.10 (right
out-of-the-box, with no tweaking, fiddling, and twisting) and suddenly
be defective under 8.04? George Borusiewich
