Thanks Andy!! I had read the systems requirements and it didn't give much info in regards to X server requirements. But your findings give me a start point to do more searching. :)

Just found this in in the FAQ, looks like you want HPIJS
Question: When would I want to use HPIJS instead of HPLIP?
Answer: There are several possible reasons:
1. On a server where no GUI is present and only shared printing is desired.
2. When printing to a SAMBA shared printer (using the CUPS smb:
backend, for example).
3. There is a desire to have the smallest printing system possible.
Most people do NOT need to do this.
See the question "How do I install HPIJS only?" below, for steps on
installing a server setup.
