Hi Ralph,
Is the problem that you are having still the same as before, not seeing any launchers or panels?
A good proactive measurement (that might not really help on this case as Alt+F2 doesn't work), is to assign a keyboard shortcut for the gnome terminal. This will allow you more control over frozen applications and other problems.
Are you doing anything when the problematic behavior happens?

Subject: a fix for remix?
I've had some problems with Jaunty on my Aspire One, to the extent
that I had to install more than once. Twice, the launchers and panels
disappeared. I was left with nothing on the desktop, without even
Alt+F2 or a terminal as an option. The most recent issue seemed to
occur after I started to use Tomboy notes, but I'm not sure if that is
the cause or not. I tried every option from the login screen and
booted in recovery mode, but nothing worked. I did get the standard
launcher to open at one point, but only by using the CLI option and
the netbook-launcher command, or something like that.
Compiz isn't worth the effort, not on this hardware, judging by my
experience. I got the cube to work for a moment, but soon the system
was locked and the goodness of eye candy was replaced by the bad and
the ugly shortly thereafter.
The latest installation has a separate partition for my /home, just in
case things work for a while and I have to install again after I
accumulate files and such.
Any ideas on this matter?
