(CC'd the list as there's a few points here that I think some of us
forget, and it's also relevant to pushing Ubuntu.)
Hey Raymond,
This is from personal experience, but you're the perfect person to be
able to explain the conversion to what we now call end-users(I really
hate that word).
I've worked with people for years on the phone trying to fix stuff like
what you've asked about on the list so far. For some techie-types(the
ones who don't have that phone experience maybe?), they just mentally
can't find the level that makes sense to both ends of the conversation.
It sucks, but it happens.
Fear of looking like an idiot is always a powerful motivation to NOT try
new things, unfortunately. (By the way, congrats on taking that step
yourself.)
However, you have the understanding of what the differences are that
cause most of the fear already.
You've been through the kinds of scenarios that most people would get
hung up on so far, and your questions have always been ones able to get
you (reasonably likely) solutions.
So here's my point...You've already given your two biggest selling
points:
"I have been using Ubuntu exclusively for over a year now"
"I am an end user and I really like Ubuntu"
So sell it to people that way. You don't have to understand the
technicalities to get the point across to most people. If it really
gets to the point where technical is an issue, then, as you already
know, if there's nobody familiar around, the wonderful people on this
list(and other lists/forums/etc) come to the rescue.
