Garmin USB Gebabbel

Has anyone sorted out a Garmin GPS connection with 10.10 ? I have tried all the suggestions on the source forge site for Gebabbel [a gui app for GPSbabel] to get direct control of the USB port but Ubuntu keeps the connection and won't let the app see it.
