Do you know about holding shift key down to get to first user?
Down arrow second entry from top, recovery enter,... wait ....
Down arrow to enable network make coffee. (eth0 works best)
When it says connected it should take you back to the choices screen.
go to root, sudo apt-get update read any errors and follow instructions.
try also sudo apt-get upgrade, follow any instructions. (By scrolling thru
text to see Warning)
You may have to reboot and start again when that is done to remove system
locked then run repair packages.
