non-root can't access dv device

I've just done that and it hasn't made any difference.
edit > preferences > ieee1394 driver: dv1394 /dev/dv1394-0
nothing else changed. Do you run kino as root?
I've started a bug report here:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/libraw1394/+bug/35693
Two things would be great:
1. How should this be working so we can get it fixed for next time
2. What is a fix-all workaround?
