I've just been having a swift look at the switching from Windows guide
in trunk/ubuntu/C/switching.

It looks extremely good, congrats to the authors! It has quite a lot of
nice marketing material too, for example the stuff on "why switch". As
it is, it provides a fairly complete introduction to Ubuntu for someone
coming from a Windows background. I think that some people should hook
up with the marketing team and discuss whether this guide can be used in
some active Ubuntu advocacy.

In this thread, I'd like to address the question of what to do with this
guide in terms of the system documentation. At the moment it's not
suitable for inclusion in the system documentation, because:

1. It contains some material which overlaps with existing documentation,
such as the "Applications" section.
2. It contains lots of material that isn't useful to someone who has
already installed Ubuntu, such as the first three sections (Why Switch,
Preparing to Switch, Installing, Dual-Booting).

But, the Migrating Data chapter in particularly could be very useful,
and would fit nicely in the "New to Ubuntu 7.04" topic (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TopicBasedHelp/TopLevelCategories)

So here is a suggestion: we take the current version of the guide and
put it somewhere safe so that it can be used for marketing, if
necessary. Then we take the bits which can be relevant to the system
documentation and merge them into the "New to Ubuntu 7.04" section. We
also take the bits which overlap with other current system documentation
and merge them into those.

Thoughts?
