[ubuntu-in] How to install non-unicode hindi support in Ubuntu

Hi,
    I am using Ubuntu 9.04 and wanted tu use Hindi. I have learnt hindi
typing on a typical typewriter and i am unable to find a similar keyboard
layout in Ubuntu. If there is a possible way then I would prefer this layout
over Unicode.
Can somone plz.. suggest me such a solution !!
