I agree that Inscript is more efficient than the phonetic keyboard
(words transliterated into English). One should be able to pick it
up within a week or so, and the keystrokes then become habitual,
even without stickers. Inscript also maps well across Sanskrit-based
Indian languages, e.g., after learning to type with Inscript Oriya,
Inscript Hindi was easy. However, some people, including people
doing a lot of data entry, prefer other keymaps. A variety of
keymaps are available.

One can also right-click on the GNOME keyboard indicator layout,
and choose "Show Current Layout" to get an image.
