Installation of Libreoffice 3.3.0 went fine for me(Ubuntu 10.10 32 bit ) as
well and I could run both OpenOffice and LibreOffice side by side for the
last 2 days. (I did not use or test too much)

As a general rule, you are recommended to install LibreOffice via the
installation methods recommended by your particular Linux distribution (such
as the Ubuntu Software Center, in the case of Ubuntu Linux).
But I used generic instruction for debian based systems:
That is, download the tar.gz, extract, cd ./LibO_*/DEBS
sudo dpkg -i *.deb (The above dpkg command does the first part of the
installation process.)
To complete the process, you also need to install the desktop integration
packages. To do this, change directory to the "desktop-integration"
directory that is within the "DEBS" directory, using the following command:
cd desktop-integration followed by sudo dpkg -i *.deb
That worked fine for me and added needed links under applications -> office
BTW, quietly, openoffice.org as well released 3.3.0 one day after release of
LibreOffice.
Thanks,
James
