What corporation? Mine! I won't give out any details about what
corporation I work for because that would not be a good thing. Today in
a large technology group meeting, management mentioned using Linux on
the desktop to reduce costs.
I jumped all over it and the open source board that I'm a member of is
working on a preliminary presentation. I think our biggest hurdle, as
with most large companies, is our reliance on Internet Explorer as a
browser standard internally. Robust inventory, security, and software
management will also be interesting but very possible.
Anyways, I'd be interested in anyone's opinions on benefits and risks.
Also is anyone aware of organizations that provide corporate support for
Ubuntu? It has to be some pretty hefty stuff.
Exciting times! If everything goes well we could easily have 10-15k
workstations on Linux in the next year or so!
