[CoLoCo] Home network and DNS

OK, I got my "static" internal IP sorted, but now I have another
question.
I have a Linksys BEFSR41v4 router (which is working fine) but I wonder
if there is a way to have a local DNS for the DHCP clients on the
network.
I tried adding
nameserver 192.168.1.1
to /etc/resolv.conf and restarting /etc/init.d/networking but that
doesn't appear to have actually done anything.
Thanks for any help.
I could, of course, just assign "static" IPs to all the internal
machines which might be the best way to do it, but I'm still curious
about this aspect of a home network.
Thanks for any hints/advice.
