There seems to be a mess of traffic on this issue. I've been looking for a
solution for a couple days. This bug reports seems to be as good as any
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/197558. There are
others too. I removed hardy and went back to gutsy but hardy is so much
nicer so I reinstalled hardy and I'm going to try various solutions until I
find the answer.
