That bug seems to include (comment 14) a relatively simple 
workaround...  an init script which reloads modules in the 
correct order to make it work.  Have you tried that?

Yeah, under that category of "various solutions", there is also a 
messy approach...  Use an old kernel with everything else 
current.  This might make apt a little unhappy, but maybe you 
don't mind.
