Excellent! Thanks for asking. Speaking only for myself,

The graphic elements I always want are:
* at least one of the Ubuntu logos (Ubuntu, and MAYBE Kubuntu, Edubuntu,
etc.)
* something iconic representing the area. I've used the Capitol dome, and
variations on the DC flag, but the Washington Monument or some other easily
recognized landmark / political caricature / whatnot might work.
* our name in the Ubuntu font

One more element would probably be an actual screenshot (or a computer /
laptop), since the Ubuntu logo in and of itself wouldn't mean jack to me if
I were encountering it for the first time. Ditto for Tux, copyleft,
Creative Commons or the Open Source logos. Seeing a computer might clue me
in.

I figure we're going MOSTLY for the unwashed masses. So, the graphics
cannot obscure the message. I'd have to get a sense of what you mean by
"heavy" or "light" on the graphics, but I'm inclined to go a bit sparse
while still having enough graphic to catch the eye. I'm not enough of a
designer to determine where that balance might be.

As goal(s)...
* "Hey, we're here to help, and you can receive help and contribute help"
* "Tired of being abused by your proprietary OS? Curious? Check THIS out!"
* "Linux for Human Beings"

Info...
* Something about the IRC meetings, though many may not know what that is.
* I *WANT* to say "how to sign up for the mailing list" but there are
already spammers banging at that gate on a regular basis.
* Maybe I -- or someone else -- can gin up a "sign up" or "contact us" form
on dc.ubuntu-us.org as a feeder that makes spammers work for it a bit
harder. If that proves easy, then it could replace providing the mailing
list.
* If we agree to schedule an event and can fix on a time and place, then
that would probably be the best way to get folks in, but I wouldn't want
the event to flop. So, something well orchestrated with sufficient tables,
outlets networking and CDs. If that's arranged it could go on a flyer.

Organization?
* Boy, did you come to the wrong place! I leave that to others. ;-)

In any case, I'd like a lot more discussion. And nothing says we can't have
a variety from multiple contributors in different styles -- though it would
be good to review them rather than just telling people to go forth with
whatever crazy-ass thing they come up with. (Some may recall some Ubuntu
calendars, wallpapers, etc. from elsewhere in the world that were deemed to
be in "questionable" taste.)
