A few of things:
1. I am excited to see so much 'energy' on the list for getting a regular meeting going.
2. All it takes is one person to 'push' for the meeting and schedule the 'speakers'
3. NYC affords you all a great opportunity for speakers that we in upstate (the real upstate not Westchester) do not have
4. Getting a regular meeting going in NYC will help us become an official LoCo; which in turn helps us get media and other perks for meetings
5. I have contacts with O'Reilly and can get books for 'give-a-ways' for meetings
I suggest trying to look at any Barnes and Noble (and Barnes and Noble college) locations that are down there; in Rochester the meeting rooms are 'public' and 'free' but have to be reserved. They may be an opportunity for a regular meeting place. If that fails you can try the following other ideas:
1. Use a location hosted by a local IT business that wants some extra 'publicity'
2. Try to work with a local college professor to get 'sponsored' as a group meeting on their campus
3. Work with an existing LUG or computer group and create an Ubuntu/Linux SIG.
I am sure that you guys will manage to get a group going with all the interest I am seeing... let me know what I can do to assist.
