samba package problem

I just installed Ubuntu 4.10 on my main workstation (I'm an ex slackware
user), and I'm very pleased with it, except for one problem. When
trying to install the samba package using synaptic I got a strange error
message (which unfortunelately I did not have the prescense of mind to
record). Now, when trying to remove or re-install the samba package I
get the following error:

Removing samba ...
invoke-rc.d: dangling symlink: /etc/rc2.d/K09samba
dpkg: error processing samba (--remove):
subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 102
Errors were encountered while processing:
  samba

dpkg --remove returned error exit status 1.

Samba appears not to be working, and I'm not sure how to get by this
error to reinstall. So... help? :).
