Ian Murdock's (creator of Debian) distro aims to be *the* platform for
Linux users doing development work.

Will Ubuntu be postured as a suitable distro for professional FLOSS
developers, or more for non-professional users?

I think both Progeny and UserLinux missed the boat in a big way after
Ubuntu blasted out such an impressive first release, but I see them as
the only serious contenders ...
