[Dapper] Flight 4 : troubles with gnome-panel

I think I may have sussed it . After two dozen problematic log-in
procedures, gnome-panel eventually notified me that it was having
problems loading the volume-mixer appler, and if I wanted to remove it
from the panel configuration. I promptly said yes, and the panel loaded
successfully, and operates properly as well. I logged out/in, rebooted,
still works. So that must be it.

On the other hand, I quite miss that applet :-/
