Why is xorg ignoring the frequencies I give it?

I'm sorry you seem to be hit rather hard.

I'm a new user of Ubuntu too and I thought I would see how easy it was
to google for an answer. I have unfortunately deleted your original post
so I don't have the details, but I turned up this page via google it may
help:

Failing that, what does Xorg.0.log say? It is in /var/log it may give
you a clue.

BTW Xorg is common to a number of distro's and the problem may not be
related to Ubuntu.
