Ubuntu i386 completely installed on my P3 but don't know usernameso cannot login ? HELP !

If he installed from the alternate install cd using the OEM method it
would have asked him for a password, but not prompted for a username. 
If that is the case, I would recommend installing in text mode from the
alternate cd. 



Alternately, you could boot into the Ubuntu recovery mode, log in as
root with the password you entered during install, and manually add a
user, but it could just be easier to reinstall.
