As others have mentioned in this thread, aplay and play work fine for .wav
files.

For playing ogg vorbis files, ogg123 from the vorbis-tools package. For
instance

ogg123 *.ogg

will play all the ogg files in a directory ( of course you can play
individual files too)

mpg123 or mpg321 for .mp3

My personal favourite though, is the " cplay " player, which has more
options, key shortcuts, and is capable of playing a number of formats.

cplay @ music/

Will start it in the music directory (assuming that's what you called
your music dir of course ;). The man page is well worth  reading.
