Ubuntu "Lite" :)

I hope you guys have heard about Xubuntu, suited for low-level hardware:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Xubuntu
One should not equal "light" Linux with "small" linux. Light linux is
for old and low-level hardware, like slow CPUs. Small linux is for
limited disk-space, like usb-sticks, credit-card-sized live-CD's,
embedded, flash-memory-disks etc.
There are certainly combinations of the two and typically some
correlation. Old hardware often has small hard drives too. But a lot of
the run-linux-from-cd or usb-stick versions needs a lot of ram and fast
hardware for instance. On the other side, there is old, low-level
hardware out there without usb :)
For DYI-tweaked installation on hardware with little memory and/or
disk-space, consider a server install with the text-interface install
cd. Once this minimal system is installed and running, you can start
adding packages like X and xfce.
