Just for your information when i got similar problem
the :
'sudo apt-get install' removed my complete KDE
and ripped of the X server too.

Just be careful while fixing them.
With Synaptic I use to get some broken packages
and trying to remove those makes most of the KDE
files to be removed.

I have tried to install a .deb and have got myself in a bit of a
pickle.......  out put follows
