sound card problem

I am running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and I have no sound. I consulted
help.ubuntu.com/community/soundtroubleshooting
.

I did as directed and came up with this failure:

laptop:~$ sudo modprobe  snd-via8237 FATAL: Module snd_via8237 not found.

laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r) m
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package m

So what is package m and where do I get it, search within Ubuntu and Googles
came up zero.
