FireFox driving me NUTS !!!

I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem. I just did a clean
install of Ubuntu Server and added the Gnome Desktop last week and haven't
touched anything to do with FireFox as far as I can tell and the darn thing
just won't wait more that a 1/10 th of a second for the web sites to respond
before giving me a "Can't Connect" error and I have to click on the "Retry"
button 20 or 30 or sometimes 40 times before it will connect ... aaaaahhhh
!!!!

If I jump over to my Win XP machine and try the same site with IE it
connects no problem and as both machines are on the same LAN, same
workgroup, and using the same Gateway, so I know the web sites are up and
working.

I posted about this a few days ago, but haven't been able to fix the
problem.

Maybe I need to re-install FireFox? Is this a simple thing to do or
something I need to be very careful with?
