FireFox driving me NUTS !!!

I would check your networking.
Secondly - Why are you installing Ubu-Server w/Gnome Desktop? 

Maybe it's just me - but if I was going to install Ubu-Server (and I
have on 4 devices) I would not want a Window Manager.

That's what I have a plain old install of Ubu for.  

In any event - remember that Ubu-Server does install with DHCP (I don't
understand the logic to that). Ensure that your new Ubu-Server is
static and ensure your networking is in order.

These are common things to look into when networking seem to fail.
