It was on a friend's machine that had suffered a power loss.  Just as 
she was starting to get a bit of confidence after years of MS, mainly at 
work.  	She had just emptied the contents of her camera on to the machine.
The fsck parts had scrolled off the screen and he just saw the last 
part. He brought the machine round to me to fix it after he had typed 
apt-get... several times and rebooted several more.
I put the drive in my machine to make a backup of the photos and then 
after a couple of run troughs with fsck it was back working.  She's 
happy again and now sorting the photos out.
I'm going to check Launchpad as I assume it has already been reported. 
If not I'll try and reproduce it and file a bug.
