I think your issue with GRUB, try boot from live cd and then go to
Applications>>Accessories>> Terminal
run the following command: sudo update-grub

You may also face issue on windows, if you have XP look at this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/KB/314503

if you have windows vista just boot from win DVD then press Next>>Recovery>>
fix startup.
