Feisty install No Joy

Did you try to boot the CD into self test mode first before trying to
install from it? Sometimes the only way to get a good burn of a full
media iso file is to hold the speed down from maximum. I use an alias
"Burn" for burning iso files, which burns at 24X.

Are you downloading with a web browser? Web browsers are awful
downloaders. Use a downloader like wget and when a connection gets
broken it can be resumed instead of started from scratch. Always run
md5sum before burning.

Not likely with a fresh install, but don't try an upgrade that way.
