Firestarter service fails to start

Try this - open a terminal and do 'sudo firestarter'.  Check the
terminal output for any errors.  Run the wizard in Firestarter - check
terminal for errors.

If /var/log/messages does not have any info, check /var/log/syslog.
Some services (like dhcp) log there instead.
