oops.  Thanks for the correction, Mario - I said it was EDITOR, but it's
VISUAL.  In my case, I _think_ it's just handled by my diversion
of /usr/bin/editor to /usr/bin/joe in update-alternatives - but it's a long
time since I set it up.
