it would seem your card is support by the latest driver.

What happens if you install the driver by hand using apt-get ?

I haven't tried it myself, but others on this list appear to have had  
success using 'envy'

(although personally before going that route I would try and  
understand why ubuntu isn't detecting your card by default...)
