There is one fellow who has been through it and lived to tell the tail:
http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3088848.0%3Bwap2
where he says that it is just a question of unpack and go (no deb or rpm),
but it uses C-shell instead of Bash-shell.
Anyway, read his story, enjoy and tell us how it went.
